Assalam-o-Alaikum guys and gals,
The results of SSC-2015 have been announced and I presume this is the best time for an advice on choosing a high school that "meets your needs". So as promised, (with some of those who asked for it 2 months ago), i'll be comparing the major high schools in Rawalpindi which are often considered the best.
You have to keep the following things in mind while reading this blog:
- I might call these high schools "colleges" because that's what most of the people here think they are.
- I'll be comparing these "colleges" on the bases of my personal experience and point of view, which might differ from most of the people you'll find in a street.
- and one more thing ! I don't know who she ^^ is ;)
- Army Public College, Humayun Road (for Girls )
- Fauji Foundation College for Girls ( FFCG )
- Fauji Foundation College for Boys ( FFCB )
- FG Sir Syed , The Mall (FGSSC )
( These colleges are listed in the order of decreasing average results as per some raw statistics. )
1. Army Public College , Humayun Road (for Girls)
1. Army Public College , Humayun Road (for Girls)
From the point of view of an outsider, who keeps an eye on the results, this college is the one which scores the highest in HSSC. The pros and cons of this college are as follows.
Pros:
- It's the highest scorer in the board.
- Due to a perception that the students here get good grades, parents tend to get them admitted here "thinking" that the faculty offered is the best.
- The college is located close to leading academies and almost all the students rush to them as soon as the session starts.
- A large number of students are admitted which results in diversity.
- I've seen students from this college participating in and winning many inter-school competitions.
- Timely completion of courses (almost 3 -4 weeks before the others ) resulting in more time to study rock hard for the exams.
- Super sections provide students with a really competitive company.
Cons:
- The faculty is poorer (as compared to FFCG)
- Most of the students rush to the academies and RELY upon them for most of what they achieve.
- The courses are completed quicker than the other colleges but the quality of the course completed is NOT ensured ( that's my point of view, obviously ).
- The grades achieved by this college are mostly due to the effort of the students and the academies. ( in 98% of the cases )
2. Fauji Foundation College for Boys and Girls ( FFC B &G )
Pros:
- These college offer one of the best faculty in the town..
- A large number of students come here seeking a better atmosphere and they come upto to their expectations ( to some extent ). So diversity is a plus point here.
- If you are looking for a good college ( I mean the teachers) with a considerably good grounds and better studying atmosphere, FFC is your top of the list choice. ( I've mentioned th egrounds as good because a lot of colleges don't have grounds at all for HSSC students )
- The faculty is very co-operative. (exceptions do exist )
- A considerably strict atmosphere and avuncular teachers PUSH you to study which results in some real good grades.
- FFCB allows you to play Football, Cricket, Basketball, table tennis, badminton and squash.
- More time:
FFC offers the most number of classes by any college in question. 8am to 2pm with multiple periods for sciences everyday provides teachers with enough time to complete the course easily and comfortably. This helps them to share some words that help the students think ''out of the box''.
- You aren't categorized on the bases of your grades once you get into FFC. A person with 910 marks would be sitting in the same class as the one with 1010+.
- Education is subsidized here. The highly paid teachers don't get paid from your fee. As a matter of fact, students on average get Rs 6000-7000 a month as a subsidy from the Fauji Foundation.

Cons:
- Bad Building for APSonians: Well , people from APS are used to wide corridors, real big grounds, freshly painted walls, big classrooms and good furniture . Unfortunately, you won't get that here. The building is new ( for FFCB ) but the corridors are narrow and the grounds aren't worth playing in. The courts for other sports are poorly maintained.
This one is IMPORTANT! FFC asks you to follow a tough schedule which means they stop you form being absent from college for extended periods of time. Students who schedule their studies and can study at home better than at college do suffer in this case..
- Tougher Routines:
For those who do study for themselves but need more time to study do get uncomfortable at FFC because of the timetable etc. The colleges are located away from the city so in travelling, time and energy are wasted. Secondly, the college wants you to perform good to an extent that sometimes you have the feeling that they are making Robots rather than people.

- Course Completion:
The teachers at FFC have been late as compared to the others when course completion is under consideration. I usually say this because when I compare it with fgssc, the students of whom spend 2 hours less everyday in college( on average ), but still get the course completed on the same dates.Contrary to it, FFC should complete their course ahead of time due to the experienced faculty, but they DO NOT ! and on a lot of instances, it feels like you are wasting you time sitting in the college.
- On average you'll get at least 1 and at most 3 bad teachers ( the "bad" teachers of FFC are equivalent to the good teachers of other colleges like APS in talent and experience ).
- Studying at FFC and going to an academy is really tough and hectic.
- The teachers are well paid so most of them don't check papers for the board regularly.

3. FG Sir Syed, The Mall (FGSSC), for Boys
Pros:
- One of the best faculty ( I haven't personally met anyone of them but this is what most of the people studying there say ). But the teachers here are board paper setters which means that they can give you a good idea of what to do.
- Less time at college, lesser time wastage and more time for research and followup. ( 8 am - 12 or 1 pm )
- They won't ask for an explanation if you are absent from college for a day or a year! ( and this ain't exaggeration ).
- Super Section:
This year fgssc has made a brave attempt to make super sections for students categorizing them on the bases of their grades . ( That's good NEWS for laiq walay bachay) and a real set back for the others. - A quick off time provides you with an opportunity to go to any academy you want and get as much extra credits as you can.
- The fee structure is very very simple. As compared to FFC and APS who charge 4000+ Rs per month, FGSSC costs about 5000 Rs. a YEAR!
Cons:
- Unfortunately a lot of students misuse the freedom Sir Syed provides. Class bunking is common even among the Super Section lads
- A lot of the students DO NOT take FGSSC seriously because of the freedom and less hours at college.
- Lesser hours at college force teachers to be to the point and some times rush, because they have to be in time. This results in a lack of time for character building too.
